Bringing a new puppy home is a very exciting time.  Here is a list of things that you can do to make this transition easier for everyone!

1.  Your new puppy is just like a new baby.  He/she will sleep more than they will be awake at first.  Your puppy will nap often and when they wake up, take them outside
immediately. Take them to the place you want them to "go" and say some words to get them to associate with this: "Do your thing" or "Get busy" or whatever.  If the puppy has an accident in the house, don't hit them with a paper or rub their nose in it.  Instead, tell them they are a bad dog!  Then scoop up the mess and the puppy and take them to the desired location outside and put down the mess and the puppy.  Then, tell them they are a good dog and praise them.

2.  Cratel training is a must!  This helps greatly with house traing because puppies do not want to "go" where they sleep.  In addition, there will be occasions  when you will have visitors that are not labrador or dog fans.  If you get your puppy accustomed to the kennel, they will feel comfortable and at home in it.

3.  Choose a good quality dog food;  we reccomend Purina either Pro Plan or Purina One, they have worked wonders for the dogs fur andthe cheaper ones are made with filler materials and you will have fewer coat and health problems with a quality food.  A thinner lab is a healthier lab so feed according to directions and exercise regularly.

4.  Avoid table scrapes as much as possible.  An ocassional piece of meat (chicken or beef, never pork), is fine but never feed from the table.  This only encourages begging and that is not a desirable quality.

5.  Always keep fresh, clean water available for your dog.

6.   Keep plenty of toys and raw hids available for your puppy to chew on.  Don't give them old shoes as a toy.  Puppies can  not tell the difference between old shoes and $100 Nikes.
